TOILETS AND HOLDING TANKS

Rules and Regulations

If you are wondering what the rules and regulations are for Toilets / Discharge and Holding tanks, I will briefly outline the regulations at present.

You are not allowed to discharge any raw sewage from your vessel into the water. If you have an Electrasan or onboard sewage treatment system you are only allowed to discharge these when outside of "No Discharge Zones"

"No Discharge Zones" include all inland waterways, intermittently opening lagoons, Marine Parks and Aquatic Reserves, and all waters within 500 metres of aquaculture, bathing, mooring and anchoring area's, person's in the water, beaches and Marina's.

Please note Electrasan on board sewage treatment are no longer approved to be fitted to your vessel, Previous approval for these devices expired on the 12th November 2005 . If you have had an Electrasan fitted prior to 12th November 2005 you are still allowed to use the system for the life of the unit, anticipated to be about 10 years.(as long as it is used outside of "no Discharge zones)

So What are your options ?

1. Install a Holding Tank connected to your toilet to be pumped out at an onshore pumpout facility.
2. If you have an Electrasan on board sewage treatment system, you can install a holding tank for the waste to go into and then discharge this waste once your are clear of any "No Discharge Zones".
3..Install Chemically Based "PortaPotti" style toilet for onshore disposal (mainly used for smaller craft).
4. Use onshore based toilets and Facilities, (if possible). Shop online for toilets and holding tanks >>
